Structure of Chloroplasts
In the above picture, parts of a chloroplast are depicted and labeled. Some important structures include the following:
The inner and outer membranes: allow substances to enter and exit the chloroplast
Thylakoid membrane: "photosynthetic membrane" surrounding the thylakoid space. (Miller & Levine, 2010)
Thylakoid space: space within the thylakoid membrane where light-dependent reactions take place.
Granum (pl. grana): the stacks of thylakoids.
Stroma: liquid portion of the chloroplast, in which the grana are located.
